My eyes are weird creatures!

---------The ORIXAS (a.k.a. Living in Brasília 2)----------

In Brazil we have a religion called CANDOMBLÉ, which happens to be a mixture of numerous african religions and catholic elements. Their Gods are the ORIXÁS. In Brasília a Place was build to honour those, with various fiberglass statues representing the deities. The place, however, is being brought down by groups of vandals. One image was torn and others were burned. People believe this is caused by religious intolerance, mainly because african cults are often associated with black magic and satanic rituals. Another version points to the adepts of candombé themselves, who would destroy the statues in order to provoke some rival spiritual leader.
I decided I had better visit the place while it still stands... Here are some pictures from the site...

A traditional ORIXÁ, in all its glory!

I believe this one to be EXU, normally mistaken for the Devil. I had just left the ophtamologist and could not read the plaque below... Well It's Exu, now!

YEMANJA, Goddess of Water used to stand upon that pillar. Below we can see a MACUMBA. The decision of taking this picture was hard to make. Something that was not there might have shown up...

I work in that building. I also blog from there!

Eat this, Frenchies!! Got your Eiffel Tower? Well, we have our TORRE DE TV in Brasília!! Below it is the "Hippie Fair". You can find pretty much anything down there... If you look closely where the arrow is pointing, you will see some suicidal guy attempting to jump!
